Fenugreek seeds for horses are a versatile herb that has a number of benefits to good equine health and wellbeing. They are a very helpful equine digestive tonic that supports increased appetite and helps the body use the nutrients contained in food more effectively.
Fenugreek can encourage fussy eaters and is a useful tonic to support natural recovery and those who have lost condition. Fenugreek seeds have a balancing effect on blood glucose, so are useful for horses and ponies affected by laminitis and/or insulin resistance.
Although fenugreek seeds are rich in iron, they do not supply much iron compared to the rest of the horse’s diet, due to the relatively small amount that are fed. A 40 g daily serving supplies about 13 mg iron, which makes only a tiny contribution to the horse’s daily iron intake. Most forages including grass and hay contain at least 200 mg of iron per kg.
